The Beginning

My family has owned and operated a farm for several generations. We are lucky enough to operate on a  piece of land that makes for beautiful pasture!

From our new barn's run in, the horse’s turnouts overlook a beautiful meadow, while a quiet creek runs through the two pastures .It is our little piece of paradise.

This parcel of my family’s farm has now became Forestview Meadow, and we are so blessed to be able to share our passion with you for lessons, nature walks, and equine wellness sessions.

About Us

Who We Are

Maureen Mary Sweet is a 6th generation farmer from Knutsford, Prince Edward Island.  Her early years are deeply rooted in mixed farm operation which included dairy, beef, hogs, chickens, cats, dogs, and always horses.  Her involvement in the farm started as a young child, and then at just eight years of age, when "Jessie" became her initial 4H pony, followed by "Pepper" and now as an adult with, "McGinty," "Momma Horse" (OK Amazon), and "Pringle."  Maureen's insight and sensitivity into horse behavior and human interaction is a product of generations of Sweet family equine involvement.

Maureen's devotion to animal health and well-being led her to Nova Scotia Agricultural College, to become a Registered Veterinary Technologist followed by a five-year equine/large animal surgery-focused position at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Coincidentally, during her training at NSAC she had the fortunate experience of meeting and hearing Dr. Temple Grandin speak on animal behavior and how her outlook and having Autism changed the way we see farm animal behavior, also how it is linked to human behavior. This experience furthered her understanding of how deeply animals can offer an extraordinary amount of physiological and psychological support beyond the animal-owner relationship.  Since moving to West Prince, her marriage, and the birth of her son, Maureen has added Human Services, Pro-Equine Facilitated Wellness (Pro-EFW), and Equestrian Canada (EC) Registered Coaching skills to her experience and training. In summary, Maureen has methodically and confidentially assembled the credentials and skills necessary to open her own equine facilitated wellness business for clients who seek emotional awareness, social skills, impulse control, confidence, trust, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Horses and humans have been working together since the beginning of civilization.  The Greek physician, Hippocrates, known as the father of medicine, wrote about the therapeutic potential of horseback riding.  Helping humanity survive, grow, and thrive, soon gave way to the development of the iron horse and use of technology.  Understandably, the departure of the need for the horse’s physical abilities they are now helping the human civilization by collaborating and providing their ability to connect to human energy. For those who experience how horses interrelate with humans on a deeper level of mindfulness, they know it is something one must observe to comprehend the remarkable nature of healing. Forestview Meadow and its horses will offer a sense of peace to participants as they react only to the participant's energy with no threat of bias.

At Forestview Meadow we feel incredibly lucky that we get to do what we love. We’d love for you to take part in the Forestview Meadow experience. For more information, get in touch!
